This is the sequel to 2009's 'HB3 Plays the Piccolo Bass,' and represents HB3's latest advancements on the instrument. The long solo piece, clocking in at fifteen and a half minutes, showcases the piccolo bass as an instrument with near-symphonic qualities. 'People always ask me how I manage to make it sound this way,' says HB3. 'And I really have no idea. The synergy between the piccolo bass and the way I hear music connects in a way I could never have planned or predicted. Regarding this new music, initially I thought more of it would be sort of gentle and lyrical, but there's also an expansive, bombastic quality that I have to attribute to the god of the sea himself. Poseidon is not a weak or timid figure -- if you're going to even try to harness him, it's going to be a fight. This is a pretty big fish to be dealing with.' The piccolo bass is tuned one octave higher than a bass and one octave lower than a guitar, combining the characteristics of each. In HB3's hands, it becomes a uniquely expressive instrument. 'HB3's music weaves a complex sonic landscape in which his peerless piccolo bass is the conduit leaving the senses heightened and the soul renewed.' -- Rev Recluse, Radio Enigma.
