Based on the book Charlie & the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl, this fantasy film, shot in Bavaria, stars Gene Wilder and became popular with adults as well as children due to it's surreal imagery, surprisingly dark message and quirky, infectious music. Written by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse, the score was nominated for an Oscar in 1971 for Best Score and includes the hits "The Candy Man" and "Pure Imagination."
